Medical Officer (Six-month contract appointment) 4 views

Stellenbosch University - Bellville, Western Cape - The Desmond Tutu TB Centre (DTTC), which is located at the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Stellenbosch University (SU), needs a committed, reliable medical doctor to assist with implementing a clinical trial of an injectable HIV-PrEP drug among HIV negative women as part of the HPTN 084 (LIFE) trial. Project activities are based at the DTTCs Kuils River site office. Appointment will be on a six-month contract. Remuneration is calculated according to a standard scale, and will also depend on the candidates qualifications, experience and outputs. The incumbent will be trained in the additional skills required to support the project. Duties: Providing clinical care and support to women enrolled in the HPTN 084 trial; Assisting with medical procedures, including phlebotomy; Working meticulously to ensure that all trial documentation (both paper-based and on electronic databases) is accurate, up to date and compliant with local and international regulations; Working closely with public health programmes and with a multidisciplinary team that includes data, regulatory, laboratory, recruiting and clinical staff; Helping to manage and coordinate study visit logistics (including communication with the off-site pharmacy team). An MB,ChB degree; Current HPCSA registration; At least two years clinical work experience in clinical research; An interest in research skills development and community health; Training in good clinical practice (GCP); Good written and verbal communication skills in English; Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); The ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with all staff; The ability and willingness to employ a client-centred approach in interactions with participants; Sensitivity to cultural, socio-economic and lifestyle diversity. Recommendation: Experience of working with Medidata Rave or similar clinical databases; Experience of the clinical management of HIV; HSP (human subjects protection) training.... - Permanent - Part-time
