Nedbank - Durban, KwaZulu-Natal - Nedbank Recruiting Occupational Health and Safety Specialist Job Purpose To provide an advisory service to the organisation, and to facilitate the implementation and monitoring of occupational health and safety practices by stakeholders to minimise health and safety incidents and to ensure compliance to relevant legislation and Nedbank policies. Job Responsibilities Coordinate the delivery of health and safety plans by scheduling site visits and audits in a cost effective and time efficient manner to maximise impact across stakeholder groups. Provide guidance, advice and support on Occupational, Health and Safety (OHS) standards and best practices to stakeholders through formal and informal engagements to ensure transfer of knowledge and compliance to relevant legislation. Build professional relationships with stakeholders by providing professional knowledge on health and safety to create awareness, protect the business and meet clients' needs. Build rapport with stakeholders through interaction and follow-up that results in open and trusting flow of communication related to health and safety matters. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships internally with stakeholders by taking action on information, queries and/or feedback received and providing information that results in a prompt response to health and safety issues raised. Liaise with suppliers to procure cost effective services or goods within budget to meet stakeholder requirements. Build and maintain relationships with local emergency services through regular engagements to ensure prompt assistance during emergencies. Deliver on the annual health and safety plan by monitoring and auditing the adherence to health and safety requirements (e.g. OHS training, appointment of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) representatives, OHS meetings, emergency evacuation planning, etc.) by stakeholders to ensure health and safety risks are adequately addressed and managed. Monitor health and safety risks and determine the state of compliance to health and safety standards in Nedbank and subsidiaries, through utilising relevant methodology (e.g. health and safety checklists etc.), to ensure health and safety risks are adequately managed. Track key health and safety risks in Nedbank and subsidiaries by conducting monthly reviews to ensure health and safety requirements are adhered to and adequate health and safety risk management practices implemented by stakeholders to prevent incidents and legislative breaches Compile monthly OHS report by collating information on health and safety matters (e.g. evacuations, incidents, etc.) for input into OPCOM, Cluster ERCO, Business Risk Management Forum (BRMF) and other ad-hoc reports as requested. Investigate validity of workman's compensation claims by interviewing witnesses to obtain information related to claims and recommend corrective action (e.g. disciplinary action, update of policies etc.), where necessary. Facilitate and coordinate the payment of workman's compensation claims by checking the accuracy and completeness of incident reports and claim forms for submission to the commissioner for payment. Coordinate evacuation drills by liaising with relevant stakeholders (e.g. Metro Police, Emergency services) to ensure the successful execution of evacuation drills that meet Nedbank policy and regulatory requirements. Provide assistance in the execution of the annual Nedbank Health and Safety day by planning and organising events, participants and/or speakers to create awareness of health and safety matters. Provide feedback of outcome of evacuation drills by presenting findings during post-mortem meetings and recommend appropriate corrective action to be implemented. Investigate incidents to identify root causes and to determine remedial and preventative control measure. Preference will be given to individuals from underrepresented groups.
