Nedbank - Johannesburg, Gauteng - Nedbank Recruiting Position Name Head : Legal - Retail & Business Banking Req # & Talent Acquisition Contact 99370 & Mina Seane Closing Date 19 July 2019 Job Family Risk, Audit and Compliance Career Stream Legal Leadership Pipeline Manage Function Job Purpose To oversee and manage the legal risks within a Nedbank Cluster by providing legal guidance; advice; litigation and dispute resolution to ensure legal and associated risks are mitigated. Job Responsibilities Monitor the implemented EE and Transformation Plan to ensure the achievement of targets, correcting any deviations. Monitor the budget and spend of outsourced work to Black Empowered firms to achieve BEE targets as related to Legal work. Drive corporate citizenship initiatives to support Nedbank Deep Green strategy. Develop, implement and measure the effectiveness of a strategy to build a differentiated culture. Provide legal advice to stakeholders in the Cluster to ensure that the Legal function adds value to Nedbank. Identify legal risks within a Cluster to provide legal process, product and transactional advice to stakeholders. Ensure legal advisors provide consistent legal advice that enhances the credibility and value-add of the function. Draft, review and vet documentation and agreements. Provide oversight over the implementation of Cluster Legal strategy by Cluster Legal advisors to highlight legal risks across all Clusters to ensure the achievement of Cluster objectives. Cultivate a culture of excellence in legal function. Monitor the implementation of new legislation and/or legal developments to advise stakeholders of appropriate actions. Interact with various regulatory bodies to ensure a relationship of trust is built and maintained to achieve functional objectives. Upskill Cluster representatives to improve legal knowledge that will ensure legal risks are understood by stakeholders. Share legal information across Clusters to improve consistent legal advice provided by legal advisors. Ensure outsourcing of legal work to relevant attorneys and/or consultants and/or advisory services and/or professional bodies to achieve functional and business objectives. Secure budget for legal function to ensure adequate budget for delivery of strategic objectives of Cluster Legal within timelines. Assess impact of each legal assignment. Track legal fees in Cluster through accurate reporting to manage legal costs and to ensure informed decisions about capacity and outsourcing of Legal work are made. Implement set standard for Legal reporting by ensuring compliance to Group Risk reporting framework and policy to ensure that appropriate legal risks within Cluster are reported, escalated, accurately measured and accounted for. Manage legal risks in terms of Legal Risk policy to ensure sufficient provisioning for litigation is made and advise Corporate Insurance to take the necessary insurance cover. Essential Qualifications - NQF Level Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees Preferred Qualification Master of Laws (LL.M) , Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees Essential Certifications Admitted Attorney or Advocate and having practiced as an Attorney Type of Exposure Developing resource plans to execute functional strategies Developing succession plans Formulating and implementing communication strategies to cascade functional strategies Conducting benchmarking exercises to identify improvement opportunities Implementing and managing strategies to achieve business area objectives Building and maintaining effective relationships externally and internally Communicating complex information in writing and verbally Drafting legal agreements; opinions; letters Litigating Managing legal risks Minimum Experience Level 10 - 12 years’ experience working as a senior legal advisor in financial services Minimum 5 years’ experience as a practicing Attorney or Advocate in a Commercial practice 10 years’ experience in a senior leadership position Technical / Professional Knowledge Budgeting Business administration and management Capacity planning Financial Accounting Principles Legal Risk and practice management Relevant software and systems knowledge Risk management process and frameworks Strategic planning Management information and reporting principles, tools and mechanisms Behavioural Competencies Customer Focus Operational Decision Making Inspiring Excellence Building Organizational Talent Driving Execution Strategic Influence Please contact the Nedbank Recruiting Team at +27 860 555 566...
