Urgent application required! An engineering workshop based in Richards Bay, seeks to URGENTLY employ a MACHINE SHOP LEAD (WORKSHOP TURNER MACHINIST) for permanent employment. Reporting to the Production Manager, the Machine Shop Lead will supervise all activities in the Machine Shop. The Machine Shop lead must be able to operate, set and programme machines in accordance to customer specifications and company standards. To satisfy the production requirements of works orders and sales orders in line with the company’s work instructions, quality standards and procedures. CRITICAL REQUIRED EXPERIENCE; Minimum 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment in a supervisory position Conventional machine experience Know of fine tolerances Tools & gauge experience essential Experience with planning, estimating and reporting Clean, repair and perform preventive maintenance on machines Must be fluent in reading drawings 5S / Lean Six Sigma advantageous EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS; Matric Trade Tested Machinist Preferably a tertiary certificate in CNC Machining Software programming – Mastercam and Solidworks ACCOUNTABILITIES; Setting and Operating CNC & Conventional Machines Create CNC programs from ISO/SANS drawings. Ability to set up, program, operate and troubleshoot CNC lathes and mills independently Operate the CNC lathes & Conventional Machines. Reduce set up time and machining time through process improvements. Maintain all machine shop repair and maintenance records Inspect completed work for conformance to specification using tools such as callipers, height gauges, micrometers, rulers etc. Leadership Supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in production machining as per the schedule Manage organization, safety and maintenance of the machine shop Provide assistance for upload / download programs, set up data through the machine HMI panel. Monitor the operation of several CNC stations. Assist the CNC operators during the fabrication process. Ensure that the correct tools are available for production. Foresee the needs for future work orders. Periodically report back to management in terms of time schedule, equipment quality and deficiencies, subcontractor performances, extra costs and solutions Quality Be able to manufacture components accurately to drawing. Ensure quality during the fabrication process and as per hold point for preliminary quality control checks (QCP’s). Focus on minimizing the cost impact of non-quality. Strive for ZERO non-conformances. HSE Comply with Company Directives and Guidelines, procedures and legal requirements. Follow the company's Golden rules. Maintain high housekeeping standards in Machine Shop PROBLEM SOLVING Must be proactive in identifying and solving problems/delays Produce Quality work Ensure client satisfaction Encourage Teamwork Work with Accuracy KEY RELATIONSHIPS; Production Team Warehouse Team Purchasing Team Sub-contractors INTERNAL / EXTERNAL IMPACTS Knowledge of the Process is required to operate, monitor and maintain direct area of accountability and complete necessary work as per the accountabilities mentioned above. Understand how changes to process conditions affect the area process outputs and how this impacts on other areas of the site from a compliance perspective.
